Lots of people will still tell you to hybrid to get useful skill upgrades but it's pretty stupid to try that. So, really, Warrior is about maxing your attack/defense, depending on how you want to play. Crossworlds/Armoured Princess makes this easier since they removed, for example, the skill that lets you upgrade acolytes into inquisitors and the skill that lets you have demons/undead in your army without morale loss. If you play Warrior, you generally just brute-force everything and use scrolls UNLESS you want to try and balance your skills between might mind and magic, which is pretty damn hard when you realise that the magic tree if something you have dedicate to or know exactly what skills you want to buy. Resurrection, heal(sort of) and disabling/enabling spells(Slow, Haste, perhaps fear if you use it right). In terms of having the edge over combat in the "You NEED this" sense e.g. Mage is optimal? I mean, if you know how to do it right, sure.
